Offering support for ex service men, women and their families.If you are a veteran and you’re registered with a Sunderland GP and need help (or you know of someone that is), we will be very pleased to hear from you. Our mission is to do everything we can to get veterans in crisis back on their feet, however long it takes. Also, you don’t need to be in crisis – all veterans are welcome.
The British Nuclear Test Veterans Association (BNTVA)
Servicemen and women who participated in the British Nuclear Tests.Social connections and practical support.Formed to campaign for recognition and restitution of the estimated 1500 service personnel alive today who participated in the British Nuclear Tests.- Bereavement – arranging funeral drape, standard bearers, providing bereavement support- Fallout Group - Descendants (closed Facebook group for descendants of involved service personnel)- Annual reunion for members and their families- Facilitating connections with old colleagues, descendants, and nuclear vets from other countries- Assistance with war pensions- Support for Operation Dominic personnel- Campaigning for medal recognition

The Royal British Legion
Members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans, and their families.Provides lifelong support and guidance to the armed forces community on a range of issues including:- Care and independent living (link below) – care homes, support for carers, independent living assistance- Financial and employment support (link below)- Physical and mental wellbeing (link below) – recovery centres, art therapy, short-term breaks, The Invictus Games, crisis support- Local community support- Expert guidance on housing, inquests, and pensions and benefits
Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen Families Association (SSAFA Forces Help)
Practical, emotional, and financial support.Provides lifelong support for veterans and their families, including practical, emotional, and financial support.
Action on Hearing Loss
Supports people with hearing loss, deafness, and tinnitus. For general advice and support, phone, text, or email the information line. To access Aged Veterans Project services, contact the project support worker by phone or email.
Army Families Federation (AFF)
Provides advice on issues including: - Housing - Health and additional needs - Education and childcare - Army reserve - Deployments - Money matters - Employment and training - Family life - Signposting service
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans
Helps all serving and ex-service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
Combat Stress
Services provided in the community, at specialist centres, on the phone, and online. Includes the UK"s only residential treatment for veterans with trauma-related mental health problems. Each veteran receives a personalised programme for their individual needs.
Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS)
Independent charity providing help and support to the armed forces community and other frontline staff whenever they are receiving medical treatment.
Help for Heroes
Provides lifetime support for the Armed Forces Community and their families. - Welfare and financial support - Career support - Sports and recreational activities - Beneficiary support networks, i.e. Band of Sisters (link below) – fellowship and support for close supporting family members of veterans and service personnel. - Recovery programmes (link below)
