Carers Assessments

If you care for someone, you can have an assessment to see what might help make your life easier. This is called a carer’s assessment.
A carer’s assessment is free and anyone over 18 can ask for one.
It’s separate from the needs assessment the person you care for might have, but you can ask to have them both done at the same time.
In Sunderland, Carers Assessments are completed by Sunderland Carers Centre. Assessments are face to face with an assessor, online self-assessment or via phone.
The carer’s assessment looks at the care and support you provide and contains information to support you in your caring role.
It also looks at anyone else affected by the caring role, including identifying young carers and assessing what available support.
