AAA Screening

Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening is for men aged 65 and over. It’s also called AAA screening. It’s a simple, risk-free ultrasound scan.

The test is only offered to men. This is because they’re 6 times more likely to have an abdominal aortic aneurysm than women.

Screening can find aneurysms early, so they can be monitored or treated. This greatly reduces the chances of the aneurysm causing serious problems.

It’s a one-time screening, offered during the year a man turns 65. Men are automatically invited for screening by the NHS. The screening is usually conducted at a local clinic, not necessarily at the hospital hosting the program.

The North East of England and North Cumbria AAA Screening Service can be contacted at 0191 445 8747 for questions or if you haven’t received your invitation.
