Healthy Heads Team

Sunderland Mental Health Support Service: Healthy Heads Team is a school based mental health service based in Sunderland and provided by South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
The team is built up of Primary Mental Health Specialist, Speech and Language Therapist, Primary Mental Health Workers, Senior Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP), EMHPs and trainee EMHPs.
Together they support children, young people and their families who are struggling with Mild-Moderate mental health and emotional well-being difficulties.
Healthy Heads support children and young people from Reception age to further education.
3 Roles of the Mental Health Support Team
- To offer advice and support to school staff.
- To support Mental Health leads in each setting to develop a whole school approach to ensure that all the children, young people and staff work together to understand and support mental health and well-being. They do this through; whole class sessions, assemblies, parent workshops and staff training.
- To provide brief, low intensity, evidence-based treatment for mild to moderate mental health difficulties. They provide this in groups or one to one therapy for a variety of common mental health issues. These include:
- Low mood
- Worry and anxiety
- Self-harming behaviours
- Behavioural difficulties
- Building self esteem
- Developing resilience
